10 Tips You Need To Read Before You Go Shopping For Your Wedding Dress (So That You Don’t Go Crazy!)

No this wasn’t my dress.

Shopping for a wedding dress can be both wildly fun and seriously daunting on your soul (watch my first wedding dress shopping vlog here). I remember having major anxiety trying to shop for my wedding dress. From what style I wanted to wear to who to invite to help me make the decision (watch my second wedding dress shopping video here). I ended up getting a dress at Pantora Bridal and the owner recently shared 10 tips that you must read before heading out to get your wedding dress. Of course, since I love you beauties I am sharing with you!

Positivity Matters

There is nothing worse than a Debbie Downer on your crew. But Debbie is even worst when you’re trying to shop for your wedding dress. She is not allowed to be a part of your Bride Squad. Leave your jealous friends home. The friends who think you’re fat or think they’re fat which in turn means you’re fat. Leave them! And definitely, ditch your recently married friend who is full of suggestions and what not to do. We do not need her! Your crew should uplift you and make the day all about you.

Don’t lie Craig!

It’s ok to not know what you want. But before you get to the bridal salon try to have some idea of what you’d like to look like on your big day. Think of your theme and your budget. Remember this only happens once (for most folks) so don’t lie to yourself about your wants and needs.

You really don’t know what you like!

My wedding dress folder was filled with things I just liked looking at. Before my appointment, I had to narrow that down to a realistic group of styles. You can like everything, just not for your wedding day.

Are you really a baller?

This is so important. That $15,000 gown will feel EXACTLY like the $2000 gown. It’s all lace, satin, and tulle. Figure out what your overall budget is and then decide how much you’d like to spend on your dress.

Oh commit already!

You will know when you find the dress. You will also know when it’s not the dress. Your tummy will flutter or be still as the Statue of Liberty. Trust your gut! Say yes when you feel it.

Intention first

It’s all fun and games until it’s hot AF and you’ve tried on 20 wedding gowns in your sweaty Spanx. If you don’t like it on the hanger, you probably won’t like it on.

Don’t wait

Very few brides can wait until weeks before their wedding and find the perfect dress. It’s best to start planning and shopping at least a year out. So as soon as you say yes, round up the troops and get to work.

You’re fired

If your friends get “out of pocket” they are fired, period! And you can fire your friend without ruin your relationship. It’s best to allow them just to be a guest before they end up not being invited at all.

Shop for your body, not your IG crush

As much as I wanted it, I knew I cannot have a plunging neckline or a low back because I am a size 40G. I need all the support I could get. Reinforce everything. Twice!

Don’t forget to take your pill

Unless the plan is to be pregnant and then get married it’s probably a good idea to try NOT to get preggers. But no judgment if you’re ok with belly wedding dresses. If you do, it’s probably a good idea to wait until baby love is here to have your wedding.
