FORMER 'ANTM' MODEL ON WHY WE SHOULD LOVE OVER BODIES

LISTEN TO EP 019: ITUNES | SPOTIFY

Joining me this week for a fruitful and healing discussion is model, actress, writer, and beauty enthusiast Eugena Washington. Eugena, like many of us, is trying to cope with the scam that is adulthood all while breaking generational curses. We chat about her experience as a model, what success looks like for her, and the how’s and why’s of loving your body.

Black and Beautiful

  • Eugena shares about her personal experiences on America’s Next Top Model with insensitive moments, feeling criticized and unfairly portrayed.

  • “When I watched on TV, you saw something different. When you actually film it, you see what goes on.”

  • She shares her experience modeling for Playboy and why she feels more comfortable posing nude or wearing very little clothing.

  • Eugena opens up about her frustration about not feeling there was a place for her as a Black American woman and being called ‘not exotic enough.’

  • “Just me. Dark. Beautiful. Black woman. Model. Could be on the cover and dominate this industry.”

What Does Success Look Like?

  • Eugena stresses the importance of not comparing your success to the success of others.

  • “Look at what you set out to accomplish and look what you’ve done.”

  • Consistency is the baby step that takes you to your biggest goals.

  • We zoom way out to childhood and all of the things she accomplished in school. “To combat that inner shyness, I did a lot of grandiose things.”

  • She remembers feeling like a mother to her siblings and how that affected her on a larger scale. “I was always just training to be an adult.”

  • Eugena unpacks the resentment she felt for how her father treated her and her family, but how she is ultimately grateful for how those experiences strengthened her.
