10 Effective Tips For Every Lazy Traveler

Ahh, vacations! We love them, but we hate to think too much about it. The more we think of the logistics, the less we have fun. I recently traveled to the Caribbean with Princess Cruises and OMG, it took forever to get ready. Then when I returned I was going through serious withdrawals so my bag stay packed until the next month. (Don’t you dare judge me!)

So because I love you, here are 10 lazy but effective travel tips you need to be aware of before your next trip.

1. Let someone (or something) plan for you

Not everyone can plan a vacation (or be invited on a press trip to warmer weather), but if you really have to, use the TripAdvisor app to keep everything in check for you. From hotels, to things to do around the city, this will totes save you lots of time allowing you to actually get excited for your trip.

2. Pick a time to pack

Waiting until the last minute to pack always seems like a good idea until you’re, well, waiting until the last minute to pack. Schedule a time to pack a couple days ahead of your travel date, so it doesn’t seem so daunting.

3. Keep a list

If you’ve made packing lists in the past, we hope you’ve held on to them. If you’re going on a similar vacation, i.e. to the Caribbean, chances are what you need to bring probably hasn’t changed. That way, you have very little thinking to do on what to pack in your luggage.

4. Put everything in your carry-on

That means everything including your money, phone, credit cards — everything — to make your trip through TSA lines easier. You won’t have to bother with taking anything out of your pockets and they’ll see whatever you packed in the X-Ray.

5. Buy your toiletries wherever you’re going

You won’t have to worry about soaps and toothpaste taking up added space in your luggage if you buy it once you’re at your destination.

6. Keep a portable charger juiced

With all the different activities you’ll be doing, you never know when you’ll be near an outlet. Keep a portable charger (I’ve got 3) ready to go in case you need it. More battery power for all those selfies in new spots you’ll be taking! (Speaking of selfies, here’s some tips on how to be a pro at them.)

7. Commute like a local

If you’re in a major city that has great public transportation, buy a weekly pass. You won’t have to bother with the headaches of expensive car rentals, parking fees or cab fare.

8. Eat like a local too

How many vacations have you been on where you eat at a chain restaurant that you’ve been to a hundred times before? Even if it’s a chain restaurant that you haven’t dined at, don’t bother. If you’re walking outside and something smells good — ding! ding! ding! — eat there. You’ll always remember the experience that you won’t share with everyone else.

9. Pay attention to the weather

If you see in the forecast that it’s going to rain, check out the museum you were planning on going to for that day. Save everything else for the nice days that you had planned. You don’t deserve to be indoors on vacation, anyway.

10. Take pics of landmarks

It’s not for the obvious reason. In case you get lost, take a pic of a landmark so you have a snapshot of where you were so you can find it again.
