5 Simple Ways To Feel Like You're On Vacation

If you’ve been following along on Instagram (which you should be), you know that I spent some time in Mexico running a retreat for the Self Care IRL community. Investing in your joy and healing is crucial, and while a relaxing retreat is on everyone’s wishlist, there are simple ways you can invest in your joy and healing every single day. These everyday practices have the power to transform your self care journey.

1. Take your vacation days without the travel

Don’t have the time to go on a trip? Does planning a trip sound too exhausting? Are you trying to not spend money right now? Set that out of office email, turn off those automatic morning alarms, and have a staycation in your own home. You deserve rest and you shouldn’t need to escape your home in order to do it. Bonus: use this time to establish routines you can carry with you beyond these “vacation days.”

2. Journal every day for 30 days

You don’t need to Eat, Pray, Love your way around the world to find your inner truth, discover what you’ve been hiding from, or what you need to heal from. Add journaling into your daily practice and you’ll get all the answers you need! If you need help with some prompts, you know where to find some good ones. (Hint: right here.)

3. Try something new

Maybe you’re not scuba diving and getting face to face with sea creatures you’ve never seen IRL, but you can always find something new and exciting to try close to home. Grab your camera and go for a scenic walk. Grab a new game from the store and have a game night. Go to a local dance class. Have a themed party with your best friends just for the heck of it.

4. Take a vacation from your phone

Vacation time is always an escape from mindless scrolling on your phone, because who would want to miss our on vacation time? Try viewing your everyday life with the same enthusiasm. Delete some social media apps from your phone if you feel like you don’t have the ability to stop yourself from opening the app. It’s time to stop scrolling as a way to escape and start reflecting on what it is you’re looking for or trying to escape from when you open up Instagram.

5. Make the everyday exciting

Do you wish you were at a swim-up bar relaxing with no responsibilities right now? Of course you do! Do you want to know how you can bring that joy into your everyday life? Buy yourself some of those little umbrellas for your drink and maybe even splurge on some new glasses for your fancy drinks. The biggest perk of being an adult is knowing that those little umbrellas make you happy and being able to make them not just a vacation extravagance. Make it happen!
