5 Tips to Turn Around Your Bad Day

Remember when a bad day was just a bad day and not all of 2020?

OR

Have you been “having a bad day” for the last 300 days?

I know we’re all waiting for 2021 like some magic switch is going to be flipped and everything will be better, but we don’t have power over that. What we do have power over is how we handle our individual bad days right now. One tiny thing has the potential to make it a “bad day,” but what if it only had to be a “bad moment”? It takes work to not let the negativity spread and ruin your whole day, but it’s possible.

Here are some tips on how to turn the funk over on its head and kick it out the door.

1. Take a shower.

Sometimes we just need to physically reset. Our natural urge is to let something ruin our whole day, so if we trick our minds into thinking it’s a brand new day with a shower, our bad mood may just wash right off.

2. Call a friend.

Maybe you need to vent about the problem you’re having in your day or you just need to get your mind off of it for a bit... calling a friend is the way to go. You know that friend who always makes you feel so refreshed and energized after getting off the phone with them? Call that one.

3. Force a smile.

This is the last thing you’ll want to do. The very last thing. The only way this could be lower on a list of things you’d consider doing is if a man was telling you to do it. BUT! Psychology says that if you force a smile long enough, you will actually trick yourself into feeling happy. Science is science.

4. Dance it out.

You need to release all of that negative energy with some movement (and throwing things or punching walls is just not going to do anything good for you). Dancing will help you release that energy and some good music will help elevate your mood too. Need a good mix for your one-woman dance party? Look no further.

5. Meditate.

Meditation can be intimidating if you’ve never done it, but it’s such a powerful tool to have. You can use the Prezence app for a guided meditation. They have options for really brief meditations or longer ones, depending on how bad your day has been on a scale from 1 to 2020.
