Do You Remember The Moment You Realized You Were Not Really An Adult, I Do!

I’ve been living fabulously in New York for the past four years. Being a full-time blogger offers up many perks! I get to do some pretty amazing things like travel the world and meet and interview celebrities (btw, they’re just like us). But a few weeks ago my idea of “the sweet life” was challenged.

HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams invited me and three other bloggers down to Raleigh, North Carolina to soak up a bit of Southern culture for few days. I did a lot of cool things during my visit and one of those things was getting a first look at the HGTV Smart Home.

So let me give you some back story.

This Smart Home is part of a grand prize package valued at more than $1 million (gasp) that will be awarded this summer (double gasp). Yes, this means you could win this house and so much more. Girl, we can have summer parties to celebrate your win, roast marshmallows on your patio, and make some homemade brownies for movie night with the crew. You see that I’ve got this all planned, right! In addition to winning this home, and every amazing piece of awesomeness nestled inside, you also get a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC and $100,000 from Quicken Loans (triple gasp).

Me & HGTV Smart Home 2016 host & interior designer, Tiffany Brooks

Tiffany Brooks (pictured above) takes the lead in creating this magnificent dwelling space for one lucky winner. The home is both rustic and chic on purpose using traditional neutrals and bold colors from the HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams Neutral Nuance Color Collection. One of my favorite rooms was the nursery. I’d totes use this as a meditation room, because my shop is closed. The room instantly felt warm and lovey thanks to the teal blue walls (HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams Riverway (HGSW3302)). To complete her living space masterpiece, Brooks also sourced art and sculptures from a few of Raleigh’s local talent to help create this stunning home.

This 3,300 square-foot smart home features three levels of “proof we are not being adults.” There’s plenty of room to get lost and escape from your daily problems or get together with your loved ones for some family fun.

But I bet you’re wondering what makes this home so smart. Well, you know I asked. And Carley Knobloch, HGTV Smart Home 2016 tech expert gave me all the “tea!”

Starting with the front door, a smart dead bolt unlocks automatically or with a smart digital key. When leaving you the house, you can literally press a button on the app on your phone to turn off the lights AND lock the door (gasp). Even the garage door can be controlled by an app.

This house is literally a genius with technological features that let you control the heating, air conditioning, window blinds and drapes, audio and visual components, lighting and more with at the touch of a button from your smart phone or your tablet (double gasp).

Not only was I impressed with the HGTV Smart Home but Raleigh earned a little special place in my heart also.

We visited the Videri Chocolate Factory where I indulged in my first cup of frozen hot chocolate (yes it was as good as it sounds!). Then we headed to the Raleigh Denim Workshop, where I instantly become inspired by the makers of raw denim. Not that I’m planning on making denim, but the beautiful blue denim hues we saw might be a perfect addition to my little home in New York. We also got to walk through the North Carolina Museum of Art, which was another beautifully inspiring moment. Right before we headed to visit the HGTV Smart Home, I reluctantly enjoyed aSegway tour to get an up close view at the Oakwood Historic District. Turns out I was pretty good at riding a Segway (who knew?)

Experiencing this home was so bittersweet…I want it. I was inspired to do a little adulting, so I plan to paint a few rooms in the box I live in here in Brooklyn. The boo and I have been going back and forth on which color to choose, because you know we cannot agree on anything. I’m thinking the HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams SeaSalt Grey (HGSW3287) and of course he wants HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams Blissful Blue (HGSW1386). As I learned at the HGTV Smart Home, it’s really easy to create room-to-room harmony with their Color Collections; and these two colors are found in their Coastal Cool Color Collection, so my boo and I really can’t go wrong! Stay tuned for my box’s redux via HGTV HOME by Sherwin-WilliamsLOL!

P.S. SO that I can come and visit you at your new place, be sure to enter the HGTV Smart Home giveaway (you can enter once a day).
