How to Keep Your Hair Straight While Working Out
Let me share the biggest gimme gotcha but also a really easy way to psych your mind out into becoming a gym rat. When I first started working out back I had braids in. That made it SO easy to keep up with my workouts and not make excuses to quit. Ideally, that’s the best way to keep your hair straight. Get a protective style! But if you can’t or don’t wanna wear braids for the rest of your life…
You’re going to need to invest in some good headbands the capture and hold your sweat… and also dry shampoo. I know dry shampoo for Black girls? I’ll explain later. But first…
You need this headband
And this one too…
But there’s a trick that no one tells you about sweat headbands, especially these two. You have to leave them on until your hair dries underneath the headband. For me this is about 20-30 minutes after I workout. If you take it off before your hair dries, your hair will be crinkly, natty, and wet! And ruin. And you’ve wasted your blowout coins.
Another secret weapon of mine that saves my blowouts is dry shampoo. Now I know what you are thinking. I feel your side eyes through the screen. But don’t click off this post yet, I swear to you I know what I am talking about.
Typically dry shampoos leave hella residue in our hair but there is one (and you can trust me on this because I’ve tried nearly all the dry shampoos) I swear by.
Stock up on this product in case they discontinue it because it is BAE. I was using it before I started working out. It was my vacation hair care product, my “I don’t feel like washing my hair this week” product…it’s just freaking amazing!
And lastly, if I do cardio. Like 45 minutes of hardcore running and walking ain’t a thing on this Earth I can do about these edges. And I am ok with that… now. It was a time that I wouldn’t work out at all because I didn’t want to sweat out my hair. Nah. I’m not that girl anymore. I am a girl with NO excuses. My health comes first! PERIODT.
