5 Ways To Jump Start Your New Year Now
Well beauties, it is officially that time of year again! No, I am not talking about the obvious; holiday season. I am talking about the time of year when everyone and their mama (literally) begins to make plans for the New Year. Some are realistic and others are farfetched but nearly everyone has at least one New Year’s resolution. My take on New Year’s resolutions is that they are great if you plan to do the work. I think that some people assume that things are going to adjust merely because they say they want them to. To the notion that you don’t have to put in any work, my response is, “no ma’am Pam”; nothing works unless you do.
I can’t lie, for years I made resolutions only to break them before I was even three months in. After doing this for so long and never being successful, I begin to see that I needed to develop an enhanced plan of action. I made it my business to set realistic goals for myself but most of all, I got up off my ass and did what needed to be done. Why? Because God forbid that calendar flip again only to find me in the exact same place in life the following year.
While I totally comprehend the whole “New Year, New You” sentiment, I am all for the now! I hate to sound cliché but there is no time like the present. If you truly want to be successful in 2016, the best thing you can do for yourself is to start now.
Yep, right damn now… you should be working on what you want in the new year and beyond. In the event that you don’t know where to start allow me to share with you a few ways to get your New Year poppin’ now.
Set goals (realistic goals)!
If you want to see your progress you have to set goals. I prefer setting short-term goals that will lead to conquering larger giants. Many times people fail because they are unrealistic. If you want to lose weight, don’t say, “I am going to lose 200 pounds this year” that isn’t realistic (or healthy). Start today and say, “By (insert date), I plan to have lost 20 pounds!” If you do this, you are guaranteed to be… WINNING (in my Charlie Sheen voice)!
Make plans.
In order to be successful, you have to take the time to make concise plans that will end in you achieving your goals. If your goal is to rebrand your business, decide what you need to do to assure that your brand’s voice is strong and appeals to your target audience. Create an outline that will not only map out what needs to be done but the most effective way to execute step by step. For Pete’s sake (whoever he is) don’t try to do it all at once.
Gather your resources.
Never assume that you have to go at it alone because you don’t. There are people, articles and all kinds of dopeness out there to help guide you through this new time in your life.
Face your fears!
Trust me, I know that it can be scary stepping out of the box and trying something different but it must be done. You can’t get to the greater by entertaining what the if’s. If this is truly your dream, pursue it with confidence and faith. Adopt my motto, “all faith no fear” and get it done no matter what.
Put it to the test!
You don’t have to present your entire finished product at once, especially since I just told you that smaller goals are more effective. As you accomplish your short-term goal, put them out there, and take them off your vision board. Implementing your short-term goal as they are achieved will allow you to see what works and how your audience responds to them. Not only will you be able to see your progress but by the middle of the year, you will be working on another board and setting new goals.
So, beauties what are some of your goals for the year, and are you putting in work now? If not, what are you waiting for? Chime in, I am eager to know how you plan to take over the world girl.
