The Top FIVE Makeup Brushes You Will Ever Need & How To Use Them

Applying makeup with brushes, versus your fingers or the applicator provided, is the only way to create a precise, smooth, finished look (IMO). Although I have collected an obscene number of brushes, I am here to assure you that you will only need five brushes to duplicate the perfect airbrushed face.

The key to these five brushes will be their multi-purpose use. Check out my top five favorite brushes and find out how each brush can be used in different ways and with different products.

1. Large powder brush

Find a powder brush that has a slight taper at the top. You can apply either blush or bronzer with this brush. My favorite: MAC 150 Brush

2. Stippling brush

I prefer to use this brush for my blush but it’s also perfect for foundation, whether liquid, cream or powder to prevent streaking. My favorite: Real Techniques Stippling Brush

3. Synthetic Flat Eye Shadow Brush

Some artists may say no to synthetic style hair brushes but as long as you have no bad skin reactions, this brush is perfect to apply both powder and cream applications. You’ll want a flat brush to apply any of your shadows-this will allow more manageability. My favorite: Urban Decay Good Karma Shadow Brush

4. Eyeshadow crease brush

When you’re shopping for a rounded crease brush, find a brush that is a firmer rather than fluffy to help with your blending. A larger crease brush gives you the ability to use for your eyelid or your crease. My favorite: Sephora Classic Rounded Crease Brush #13

5. Eyeliner brush

This brush is probably the most overlooked brush in your makeup bag, but it’s perfect for both your eyeliner, to create a smokey eye look and to fill in your brows. My favorite: Bobbi Brown Eye Liner Brush
