Red Dress Collection Fashion Show 2015: Backstage Interviews & Show Highlights [VIDEO]

I’ve been attending fashion week for the past seven years and although I am grateful for every invite I receive I decided this year I would skip most of the shows (I gave those invites to my contributors) and only attend my favorite ones.

The Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection runway show presented by Macy’s is one of the most coveted fashion week shows. I’ve applied numerous times in the past only to get the dreadful “sorry, we are at capacity” email.

This year was different! *does praise dance*

The American Heart Association’s PR company reached out to me for coverage. Of course I jumped at the chance, duh. I had to read the email over and over again just to make it was addressed to the right person. Like, really…me? I’ve worked really hard to get here (wherever here is, still figuring that out) and I wholeheartedly believe I deserve it all, but sometimes I gotta pinch myself or reset my emails to be sure.

Last night’s show featured more than 20 celebrities who went “red” for the millions of women with heart disease and to dispel the publically held misconception that heart disease is just a man’s disease.

Hoda & I… ya know kicking it.

Celebrities such as Star Jones – heart disease survivor – are helping to break the barriers on gender disparities, reframing this serious health issue. Many of the celebrity walkers are also breaking barriers in their own industries, such as Laverne Cox who is the first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy in an acting category.

Laverne & I.. we like bffs now!

Before the show I headed backstage and chatted with a few of the key players of the evening! Check it out.
