What to watch on Amazon Prime
Now that so many movies are getting released onto streaming simultaneous to their theater runs or very shortly after, there have never been better options on streaming right now. Here are some of the best new movies you can watch on Amazon right now. Happy watching!
1. Jungle Cruise (Rental)
If you’re looking for a good family night movie, then this is the one. Emily Blunt and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson star in this movie where they have to find a magical tree in order save the world. There’s witty banter, impressive action scenes, and it will also be a good reminder to go after what you’re passionate about.
2. Last Night in Soho (Rental)
This movie is the latest from writer and director Edgar Wright, and it is a thriller like you have never experienced. On the surface, it’s terrifying. If you dig a little deeper, it’s a cautionary tale about romanticizing the past. Plus, there are some really cool 60s outfits and the best rendition of “Downtown” that you’ll ever hear.
3. Candyman
This one is for all of the horror fans! This might be a familiar story to you if you’ve seen the original film from 1992. The latest in the Candyman universe is directed by Nia DaCosta and was produced by Jordan Peele. The film opened at number 1 in the box office, making Nia DaCosta the first Black female director to hold that spot.
4. Old (Rental)
You probably saw all of the jokes and memes on Twitter about this movie, where its characters spend time on a beach that mysteriously makes them age at an alarming rate. This comes from director M. Night Shyamalan who you know for his plot twists like in The Sixth Sense.
5. Here Today (Rental)
This comedy stars Tiffany Haddish as a young singer and Billy Crystal as an aging comedy writer starting to battle dementia. Their friendship blooms unexpectedly and beautifully. This comedy will be your reminder to find joy in the fear and gratitude in the grief.
5. Dear Evan Hansen (Rental)
This is the movie musical version of the famous Broadway show, starring Ben Platt, who was the lead on Broadway as well. His singing voice is incredible and you will be listening to the soundtrack nonstop after watching this.
6. Respect (Rental)
This Aretha Franklin biopic stars Jennifer Hudson— and we all know that Jennifer Hudson is absolutely perfect for this role, but what you may not know is that Aretha Franklin hand-picked her for this role! This is the perfect movie for a solo movie night, a date night, or a girls night.
7. Time (Free w Prime)
This documentary was nominated for an Oscar in 2020 and is now on Amazon Prime Video for free. It follows a couple throughout their beautiful love story, some of which is told through home video recordings, that remains so true throughout the most painful time in their lives.
8. No Time To Die (Rental)
The latest in the Bond franchise is currently available for rent on Amazon. If you’re into the Bond franchise or are just feeling in the mood for some action, this is the perfect choice. You can even make a whole day of it and marathon all of the Daniel Craig-led James Bond films.
9. Sleepless in Seattle (Free w Prime starting Dec 1)
This classic is coming to Amazon Prime on December 1st for all of your cozy winter night movie needs. If you haven’t seen it, but have seen and loved An Affair to Remember, then drop everything and watch this ASAP. This movie is romantic, charming, and a perfect New York movie.
10. Being the Ricardos (Rental starting Dec 21)
Nicole Kidman stars as Lucille Ball and Javier Bardem stars as Desi Arnaz, in this movie focusing on a single week of their lives. There is early awards chatter about this movie, so even if you never watched I Love Lucy, you’ll probably love it. This movie hits theaters on December 10th, but starting on December 21st, you can watch it from the comfort of your home on Amazon.
