Here's what you need to do when your parents' best wasn't good enough.
LISTEN TO EP 79: APPLE PODCASTS | SPOTIFY
So really short story time. Last week I was transferring my music to my new hard drive because my old Lacie hard drive decided to just completely quit. She said girl, aht aht get somebody else to do it. Luckily this happened at home and not while I was at a gig. But as you can imagine this is a very tedious task so while I was copying and pasting music I decided to check out the new series Unprisoned. All 8 episodes of season 1 are available on HULU so while I was switching the hard drives I accidentally binged the series. I say accidentally because I didn't plan to binge it in one night. Each episode is 30 minutes long making this an easy and relatively good watch.
"Unprisoned" follows a therapist and single mom played by Kerry Washington whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad (Delroy Lindo) gets out of prison and moves to her house to live with her and her teenage son.
There's a question in episode 8 that nearly made me cry and got me to thinking. So I immediately ran to my mic to chat with you. Oh also the show is narrated by Kerry and her inner child. Genius I know. Anywhos. The question was, "What does a child owe a parent whose best wasn't good enough?" I know that's a really heavy question. So much of this show resonated with me.
So in this episode you and I are going to dive deep into our relationships with our parents and the impact they've had on our lives. Sometimes, despite their best efforts, our parents' actions and decisions just didn't cut it. So, I'm going to share 15 emotionally intelligent solutions to help you heal and move forward. Even if your parent isn't a willing participant.
