Things Every Mother Should Tell Their Daughter

LISTEN TO EP 14: ITUNES | SPOTIFY

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know my mother died in 2013. If you’ve been around here even longer, you know I wrote a book about it called Things I Wish I Knew Before My Mom Died. In this final episode of season one of the podcast, I wanted to read you a chapter from my book. Lucky for you, you can still buy it everywhere books are sold! If you want to buy it on Amazon right now, you can do that right here.

Things Every Mother Should Tell Their Daughter

  1. Start by telling your daughter that you love her.

  2. Help her hear her inner voice. It will help her feel confident enough to make her own decision without the influence of others, including you!

  3. Tell her that she is worthy of a magical kind of love and she should run fast from anyone who doesn’t believe that to be a fact.

  4. Tell your daughter it’s important to treat people with kindness because you never know what others may have been through. Plus, mean girls never win.

  5. Tell her for heaven’s sake that it’s just hair. Seriously.

  6. Tell her that it’s so cool to be smart and no one will ever be able to take that away from her.

  7. When your daughter is heartbroken, she will need you the most. So give her all the unsolicited advice you want.

  8. Remind her that it’s ok to have feelings. Give her permission to own her feelings and ignore the judgement that may follow for doing so.

  9. Remind her that people deserve second chances, no one is perfect including her.

I know I am the woman I am today because of her love then and because of the love that was still there after she was gone. So, to every daughter and every mother out there, I challenge you to love hard. I challenge you to live every day in the faith of your love so that when it’s not physically there you won’t ever feel alone.
