7 Ideas To Bring You Joy This Winter
The days may be getting a bit longer, but it’s still winter out here and the seasonal depression that many people carry with them during this time of year is still hanging around. Here is your gentle nudge to try some of these ideas to bring you joy.
1. Decorate
I love Christmas. If I could leave my Christmas tree up all year round, I absolutely would. Since I know this is something that brings me joy, I put up my Christmas tree super early to get maximum joy from this season. You can do this all year (just not with the tree). You don’t need a holiday to add a little twinkling light to your living room. Especially if it makes you happier when you’re cozied up on the couch… do it!
2. Say yes to invites
Covid has had us in a chokehold but as this weird quarantine season ends outside is becoming more appealing. The last thing I’ve wanted to do is get dressed up and put on a happy face but I have and babygirl… no regrets. Sometimes getting outside and making plans with friends is exactly what you need to put a real smile on your face.
3. Start a project
Starting something new can be scary, but it is also so much fun. If you find the right thing, you may just have a project you can return to all the time when you need a pick me up. Plus, it’s SO nice to have something to look forward to after the work day is over.
4. Catch up with friends
You have to be super intentional about showing up for your friends, especially in adulthood when life is pulling everyone in all sorts of directions. But take this time to make sure you’re catching up with friends who you haven’t seen much this year. Nurturing these important connections will do wonders for you joy. 5. Go out for a walk
I know what you’re thinking… “Immediately no.” But hear me out. Yes, you dread the idea of doing this, but getting your body moving and out in the fresh air will bring you more joy than you expect. So layer up in your warmest clothes and head outside. A fun bonus of this activity is that it makes you really look forward to getting back into the warmth.
6. Get cozy
This one is the perfect follow up to your chilly walks. Maybe take a bath with candles lit or give yourself a nice spa day. (More tips for that here.) And then put on your favorite lounge set, make yourself your favorite warm drink, and curl up under the coziest blanket you own.
7. Recognize that bad days happen
Listen, not every day will be perfect. Sometimes the winter just kicks you in the butt and you’re knocked out in bed for the whole day, but keep in mind that it won’t last forever, even though it ALWAYS feels like it in the moment.
